Leon Edward “Ed” Pawlowicz, 72, of Eagle Mill Road, Butler, died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Butler on Aug. 10, 1938, a son of Leon I. and Mary Ragan Pawlowicz.

Ed retired as a turn foreman in the maintenance department of the Armco Steel Corp. plant in Butler, and later had worked part time at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. Together with his wife, he was co-owner of Locust Brook Lodge Bed and Breakfast on their family farm, for the past 10 years.

He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church at Meridian, and he had been very active in the Knights of Columbus fraternity. Ed was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Butler Council 866 and had also been a past district deputy for this area. He was a member and Past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, St. Fidelis Assembly, Butler.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed farming along with hunting and fishing, and also woodworking.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Carol English Pawlowicz, who he married May 7, 1960; five children and their spouses, Mary Beth (James) Puryear of Slippery Rock, Veronica Lynn (Peter) Minke of Butler, Christopher Edward Pawlowicz of Pittsburgh, Andrew James Pawlowicz (Melissa Painter) of Butler, and Eric Lawrence (Sonia) Pawlowicz of Butler; nine grandchildren, Mark and Jessica Crawford, Melissa Stewart, Catrina, Danielle, Mary, Olivia and Debbie Pawlowicz, and Zofia Minke; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Simmers, Zion Crawford and Kenna Stewart; one sister, Rosemary Pawlowicz of Butler; two brothers, Thomas (Sharon) Pawlowicz of Butler and Joseph (Betty) Pawlowicz of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

<B>PAWLOWICZ</B> — Friends of Leon Edward “Ed” Pawlowicz, who died Sunday, July 31, 2011, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, 303 Penn Ave., Lyndora. The Rev. George Palick will officiate. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Butler.The family suggests that memorial donations could be made to Butler Catholic School, 515 E. Locust St., Butler, PA 16001.The Bereavement Committee of St. Fidelis Parish will conduct a prayer service at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
