Twila A. Ellis
Twila A. Ellis, 98, of Butler passed away July 24 at the home of her stepson, surrounded by family and friends.
The middle child of three, she was born Jan. 21, 1913, in Vandergrift Heights, to William Chester and Grace Mae Robinson.
She graduated from Fairview Township Karns City High School, Class of 1930, and then continued her education at the Buffalo General Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1933 with a degree in nursing.
After returning home, she moved to Washington, D.C., in 1937 and was employed by the St. Elizabeth Hospital. Later she worked as a supervisor clerk in the office of administration with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, working there until 1962. She returned to Butler County in 1969.
She married Robert E. Grimes Nov. 23, 1937; he died Sept. 3, 1950. She then married Leo G. Ellis on Nov. 21, 1959; he died Nov. 21, 1980.
Mrs. Ellis was a former member of the Capitol Hill United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by her stepson, Dennis Ellis of Hagerstown, Md.; her stepdaughter, Debra Adams of Manassas, Va.; a niece (like a second daughter), Colette Bowser of Chicora; along with another niece and four nephews. She has six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Master, and her brother, Don Robinson.
