Rock nears region title

Butler's Courtney Gallagher serves against Seneca Valley's Elisa Park on Monday during a 4-1 win for the Golden Tornado at Seneca Valley High School.

Brett Rinker shot a 72 as Slippery Rock extended its Region 2 megamatch lead to three points Monday with a win at Tanglewood.

Slippery Rock and Hickory were tied heading into the match, but the Hornets placed fourth. The Rockets now lead 28-25 over Hickory and by 12 points over third-place Wilmington.

The final megamatch of the season is next week at Grove City Country Club. Slippery Rock needs to finish in third place or higher to clinch the title.

North Allegheny 3, Butler 1 — Macy Stalnaker accounted for the Tornado's lone goal in this section matchup.Butler (0-3, 0-2) will host North Hills Wednesday.

Girls VolleyballJunior setter Meredith Snyder collected 20 kills, 10 blocks, 20 assists, 12 digs and seven aces as A-C Valley went undefeated in capturing the Brookville Tournament championship on Saturday. Ten teams competed in the event.The Falcons beat Brockway in the finals 25-16 and 25-19.Also turning in strong performances were Kelsey Boocks (18 kills, eight blocks), Emily Quaill (23 assists, seven aces), Tricia Kerlin (13 kills, 11 aces) and Abby Wetzel (24 digs).

Plum 3, Knoch 2 — The Knights (1-1) received 20 kills from Celina Sanks, 31 assists from Stephanie Gross and 10 service points and 20 digs from Jessi Bolby, but it was the Mustangs that came away with the 25-18, 15-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-13 non-section win.

Girls TennisKnoch 5, Highlands 0 — The Knights blanked the Rams in a section contest to improve to 5-0 in the section and 6-2 overall.Knoch will host St. Joe's today.
