Michael Monfre Sr.
Michael A. Monfre Sr., 78, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Butler, Dec. 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa Doria Monfre.
He was a retired salesman, having worked at Benson's clothing store for 32 years, then working at The Hub, Butler Floor, the Logan Candy Co. and Benjamin Beetle.
A graduate of Butler High School Class of 1950, he was a devoted family man as well as an avid golfer and boccie player.
He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Robb Monfre, to whom he was married for 54 years; one son, Anthony P. Monfre and his wife, Brenda, of Butler; one daughter, Gina Stutz and her husband, Kevin, of Butler; one brother, Alfred A. Monfre of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael A. Monfre Jr., who passed away June 10, 1994; and one daughter, Teresa A. Monfre Bauer, who passed away June 23, 2007.
<B>MONFRE</B> — Friends of Michael A. Monfre Sr., who died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, will be received at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father James Dolan officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Tuesday to conduct a scriptural wake service.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
