Walter K. Morey, 87, of Portersville passed away suddenly Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Butler, the son of the late Floyd E. and Gertrude (Cochrane) Morey.

Walter retired from Armco after 35 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, where he was stationed overseas. He received a commendation for his accomplishments with the anti-aircraft outfit in France on New Year's Day 1945.

He was a life member of the Victory Masonic Lodge 694, the Syria Temple Shrine, the Butler Royal Chapter 273, the Consistory Legion of Honor of New Castle, the NACO Caravan 19 and the Elks Lodge 170. He also belonged to the American Legion Post 117 and the VFW Post 249.

Walter liked to golf and enjoy life to the fullest.

Surviving are his wife, Etoile Lacrete (Diehl) Morey, who he married April 20, 1948; a son, W. Kenneth Morey and his wife, Cindy, of Cochranton; two daughters, Patricia Kovach and her husband, David, of Cranberry Township and Marcia Luchkiw and her husband, Robert, of Ravena, N.Y.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin N. Morey.

<B>MOREY</B> — Friends of Walter K. Morey, who died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, will be received at <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Services will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday.
