John S. 'Jack' Knapp

John S. “Jack” Knapp, 88, of Zelienople, formerly of O'Hara Township, Allegheny County, died Tuesday at Passavant Retirement Community.

Born Feb. 20, 1923, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of the late John and Norma (Harbaugh) Knapp.

Mr. Knapp was a member of the Grace Church of Harmony and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1940 and received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1943.

Mr. Knapp worked a chemist for Federal Laboratories in Saltsburg for a number of years and retired as a computer programmer for Filmet Color Labs in Cheswick.

He loved music, was a former choir member at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois Ellerbrock Knapp, who he married May 18, 1951; a son, David Vernon (Carol Ann) Knapp of Evans City; two daughters, Karen Elizabeth (James Richard) Koerth of Rockport, Mass., and Carol Susan (Gregory Paul) Flinn of Cranberry Township; and six grandchildren, David James Koerth, Jason Edward Koerth, Melanie Carol Koerth, Jonathan David Knapp, Benjamin Joshua Knapp and Sarah Elizabeth Knapp.

<B>KNAPP </B>— Friends of John S. “Jack” Knapp, who died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at <B>Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home & Cremation Services</B>, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Peter J. Everett, his church pastor, officiating.
