John 'Rick' Sullivan

John Patrick “Rick” Sullivan, 58, of Aspen Road, Petrolia, passed away Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following a yearlong battle with cancer.

Born on July 20, 1953, in Butler, Rick was the son of the late James and Phyllis Slaney Sullivan.

Mr. Sullivan had been employed by Pullman Standard in Butler and had also worked as a truck driver for various Butler area companies. He had been a state constable in the City of Butler.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and had served honorably for more than 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He had been a member of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department and the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, speed boat racing, and camping at Canadohta Lake.

He was a Christian. He enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a joke to tell.

Surviving are his four daughters, OFC Heidi Sullivan and her fiance, Jimmy, of Orlando, Fla., Christa Sullivan-Williams and her husband, Chris, of Atlanta, Ga., Malorie Schneider and her husband, Jason, of Butler and Whitney Scott and her husband, Nick, of Butler; two stepchildren, Shane and Parri Still of New Castle; his fiancé and long time companion, “Charli” Gilmore of Petrolia; four siblings, James Sullivan and his wife, Diana, of Canadohta Lake, Nancy Travaglio and her husband, Rick, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Thomas Sullivan and his wife, Josette, of Butler and Maureen Toy and her husband, Victor, of Canadohta Lake; two grandchildren, Kailyn and Kaleb Schneider;

one step-grandson, Chase Pope; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

<B>SULLIVAN</B> — Friends of John Patrick “Rick” Sullivan, who died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, will be received at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A blessing service will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Joseph Pudichery, pastor of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, officiating.Military honors will be accorded by the Dexter Leroy Donaldson VFW Post 7876 and the Dierken Ritzert American Legion Post 642, both of Chicora. Interment will follow in Mt.
