Joseph Henry Melnyk
Joseph Henry Melnyk, 90, of Moon Township, formerly of Butler and New Castle, died Monday at his niece's home.
He was the son of Anna (Walsko) and Joseph Melnyk.
He graduated from Union High School in New Castle and Robert Morris College, Pittsburgh, in business.
During World War II, he served as staff sergeant in North Africa, Italy and the Pacific.
Upon returning, he worked for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Employment Security as a field accountant for 37 years.
He was a devout Christian with no specific church affiliation.
He was a member of the VFW and the Moose.
His wife, E. Jean (Oesterling) Melnyk, who he married in 1973, preceded him in death Aug. 9, 2001.
He was the beloved father of Marjorie Ashley (Frank), Kathryn Grelling, Patricia Grelling and Lois Plaisted (Dan), all of Butler; cherished uncle of Elaine Hoffman (Wade) of Moon Township and Paul A. Young (Carolyn) of Clearwater, Fla., and the late Ellen Young (the late John); and loving brother of Lew Melnyk (Jane) of Menlo Park, Calif. Also cousins, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren survive.
<B>MELNYK </B>— Visitation for Joseph Henry Melnyk, who died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, will be from 2 until time of service at 4 p.m. today at <B>Copeland's </B>Moon Township funeral home, 981 Brodhead Road. Dan Plaisted, his son-in-law, will officiate. Private burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Butler.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
