David L. 'Monte' Montgomery

David L. “Monte” Montgomery, 82, formerly of Fleming Road, Pine Township, Mercer County, died at 10:50 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Living Center, Grove City, where he made his home since July 2009.

Born in Pine Township, Mercer County, May 21, 1929, he was the son of Miller David Montgomery and Annie E. Burk Montgomery.

He married Alice “Becky” R. Cumpston on Sept. 21, 1960.

Mr. Montgomery retired in 2001 from the former Monte's Truck and Tire Service, Emlenton, where he was owner/operator for 13 years. Formerly, he operated 80 & 8 Tire Service at Barkeyville and the former Sunoco station in London, Springfield Township, Mercer County. He previously was employed by the former P. Wall Co., Grove City.

He was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, Harrisville.

He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Monte enjoyed his dogs, hunting, fishing and reading.

Surviving are his wife, Becky of Grove City; two children, Michelle L. Cravener and her husband, Brian, of Slippery Rock and Ronald N. Montgomery of Grove City; and three grandchildren, Megan, Amie and Samuel Cravener, all of Slippery Rock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Brian Montgomery, and a brother, Albert A. Montgomery.

<B>MONTGOMERY </B>— Funeral services for David L. “Monte” Montgomery, who died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, will be at the Harmony United Presbyterian Church, 234 N. Main St., Harrisville, at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jeff Jones, pastor of the church, officiating and the Rev. John McElwain assisting. Visitation will be at <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
