Joseph Francis Sutherland
Joseph Francis Sutherland, 83, of Gibsonia, formerly of Monongahela, died Sunday at St. Barnabas Nursing Home in Gibsonia.
He was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Monessen, a son of the late Joseph and Florence Schuller Sutherland.
Mr. Sutherland was a 1947 graduate of Monongahela High School and had attended West Virginia University.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II from 1945 to 1947.
He was employed at U.S. Steel, Irvin Works as an electronics repairman, retiring in 1989 after 38 years.
He was a member of the St. Damien of Molokai Parish, formerly Transfiguration Church, in Monongahela.
Mr. Sutherland loved to fish and travel.
He is survived by three children, Maria Kowalski and her husband, Steve, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Amy Roscoe and her husband, Tim, of Cranberry Township and Joe Sutherland and his wife, Janet, of San Jose, Calif.; two grandchildren, Susie Roscoe and Joey Sutherland; a sister, Phyllis Koehler and her husband, Hoby, of Mt. Pleasant; and a brother, Clyde Sutherland and his wife, Betty, of Monongahela. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Cantini Sutherland, who he married May 21, 1960.
<B>SUTHERLAND </B>— Friends of Joseph Francis Sutherland, who died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the <B>Frye Funeral Home</B>, 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church, at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. William Terza, pastor as celebrant.
