Road closed for hours after power lines pulled down
BRUIN — The main road in and out of the borough was closed for nearly three hours early this morning after a coal truck pulled down utility wires, authorities said.
A fallen tree apparently started a chain of events around 3:10 a.m. that shut down Route 268, also known as Main Street, through the borough. The tree came down on the wires and a passing triaxle truck caught the cable and telephone wires on its bed, ripping down the wires, said Chief Tim Slagle of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department.
The truck, owned by Ralph Dittman Trucking Inc., was traveling south on Route 268. The driver, whose name was not known this morning, was not hurt.
State police are investigating the incident but a report was not immediately available.
Authorities said a neighbor spotted the truck caught up in the wires and called 911. Rescuers were not sure at first if any electrical wires were among the downed lines, but it was quickly determined no live wires were involved.
Bruin and Petrolia firefighters were notified and closed the road to allow crews from the cable and telephone companies to come in and tend to the damaged lines.
