Herold Jr.

Clarence W. Herold Jr., 71, of Prospect passed away Wednesday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

He was born March 28, 1940, in Butler, to the late Clarence W. Herold Sr. and Irene Sackett Herold Elliott.

He retired in 2000 as a heavy equipment operator and worked in various states and locally at the Graziano Construction Co. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 66.

He had many hobbies over the years, including stock car racing and riding motorcycles. He had his private pilot's license and owned a Piper Cherokee plane for 15 years. He was a member of the Butler County Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He loved to take his family and friends flying.

Clarence and his wife Betty spent much of their retirement years in their RV. He enjoyed being “on the road again” traveling the country in their motorhome. They spent most winters in Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a proud Dad, Pap Pap and Great Pap Pap.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Thompson Herold, who he married June 28, 1958, at the Branchton Methodist Church; his children, Charlene (John) Eckert of Butler and Jeffrey (Dana) Herold of Slippery Rock; five grandchildren, John Eckert Jr., Dustin Eckert, Amanda (Matthew) Scott, Mackenzie Herold and Max Herold; four great-grandchildren, Sierra Eckert, Dustin Eckert, Greyson Scott and Caleb Clarence Eckert; four sisters, Veva (Jim) Martsolf of Butler, Carole (Fred) Eury of Chicora, Diane (Watson) Smith of Portersville and Velma (Mark) Lunger of Sunbury; two brothers, Walt Kummer of Kennerdell and John Herold of Saxonburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tom and Roy Herold.

<B>HEROLD</B> — Visitation for Clarence W. Herold Jr., who died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect. Visitation also will be from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Rob Allison will officiate.
