Emily J. Brown McFarland, 75, of Lawrence County passed away Thursday at 8:40 a.m. at the Autumn Grove Nursing Home in Harrisville.

She was born in Boyers on Aug. 31, 1936, to Joseph and Elizabeth Naples Brown. She married James E. McFarland on June 6, 1959, and he died July 11, 2008.

Emily retired in 2004 from Slippery Rock University, where she was a secretary for 37 years.

She was a member of Harlansburg Presbyterian Church in Harlansburg. Emily was active in the church and served as a deacon.

She was active with the SRU Federal Credit Union and AFSCME at SRU. She served as a former chairwoman of two cancer walks and four Relay's for Life at SRU.

She is survived by one daughter, Melody A. Nail and her husband, James, of Lawrence County; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Bortot and Ella Jane Fielding; one brother, Regis Brown and his wife, Dorothy; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Samuel Brown; one niece; and one nephew.

<B>MCFARLAND</B> — Visitation for Emily J. Brown McFarland, who died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, will be Saturday, from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 2 p.m., at the <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Brady Randall, pastor of the Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, officiating.Burial will be at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Harlansburg.
