PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal has been fined $2,500 for high sticking Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban Saturday in Montreal.

Neal was assessed a minor penalty on the play. The Penguins defeated the Canadiens, 4-3.

The money from the fine, which is the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Neal has 13 goals and 23 points this season for the first-place Penguins.

NEW YORK — Injured Penguins defensemen Kris Letang and Zbynek Michalek returned home to Pittsburgh to be re-evaluated while their teammates took on the Rangers in New York.Letang broke his nose Saturday in Montreal when he was struck by Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty, who was suspended three games for the hit. The defenseman practiced Monday and skated Tuesday morning in New York, but said he had trouble breathing.

Several media outlets in Boston, citing anonymous sources, reported earlier in the evening that Valentine would be the team's new manager.
