Esther Elizabeth Hartzell Hixon

Esther Elizabeth Hartzell Hixon, 92, of Renfrew passed away Tuesday morning at her home.

Born in Butler, May 31, 1919, she was the daughter of the late David L. and Carrie Maharg Hartzell.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Evans City. She was a former member of Meridian Alliance Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Sunday school superintendent and a church board member.

She was active in family, the community and her church.

She was a farm wife and co-owner and founder of Sunset Acres and Peaceful Valley farms in Brownsdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Hixon, who she married Oct. 6, 1937, and who died Sept. 30, 1987. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Miriam Cashdollar, Jean Mock and Ruth Hill; a brother, John Hartzell; a daughter-in-law, Eunice Hixon; and a grandson, Jeffrey Hixon.

Surviving are four sons, Donald E., Grayson “Boots” (Kathy) and Wayne (Wanda) Hixon, all of Butler, and Philip (Sheri) Hixon of Evans City; one brother, D. Dale (Bette) Hartzell of Butler; 13 grandchildren, Eugene, Barry, Danial, James, Andrew, Ann, Peter, Tom, Donald and Philip John Hixon, Joy Cetnar, Amanda Slupe and Alicia Norman; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

<B>HIXON</B> — Relatives and friends of Esther E. Hixon, who died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, will be received at <B>A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home</B>, 328 W. Main St., Evans City, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday.
