William L. Solomon Jr.

Solomon Jr.

William L. Solomon Jr., 79, of Buffalo Township passed away peacefully at 3:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Margaret Hospital.

William was born in Sarver on Aug. 8, 1932, a son of the late Ellen (Hauck) and William L. Solomon Sr.

Bill graduated from Har-Brack High School in 1950 and went to work for PPG Industries for a few years.

He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After the war, he went back to work at PPG for a short time.

Bill was hired by the Oberg Manufacturing Co., where he received the Man of Year Certificate of Merit in 1984 for his engineering efforts. He worked for Oberg for 39 years and retired in 1995.

Bill was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sarver. He was a life member of the VFW Post 894 in Natrona Heights and a member of the Lower Burrell Senior Bowling League. Bill also had been a coach for the Freeport Area Little League for many years.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling and had been on many cruises and tours abroad. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie (Formento) Solomon; their two sons, James W. (Mary) Solomon of Irwin and Randall L. (Melanie) Solomon of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan and Anna Solomon; and two brothers, Robert (Shirley) Solomon of Advance, N.C., and Richard Solomon of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Borland, and his brother, Ronald Solomon

<B>SOLOMON</B> — Family and friends of William L. Solomon Jr., who died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, are being received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday in <B>Redmond Funeral Home</B>, 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Sarver Road in Sarver will be at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Emery Barnett officiating.
