David A. Kirk

David A. Kirk, 87, of Guys Mills, Crawford County, died Sunday at the Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born in Richmond Township, Crawford County, on Sept. 18, 1924, a son of George Thomas and Belva Roudebush Kirk.

He married Lois C. Slack, who survives.

David was a graduate of Meadville High School and graduated from Allegheny College with a bachelor's degree in chemistry.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army 39th Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations.

He worked as a chemist at Talon and General American Transportation and subsequently was the manager of the Butler Area Sewer Authority for more than 25 years. Following his retirement, he worked for Penncrest and the Fort LeBoeuf School districts as the clerk of the works.

David was an active member of the Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, where he served in various capacities. He also was a former board member of the Blooming Valley Cemetery Association.

Surviving, in addition to his loving wife, Lois, of 63 years, are a daughter, Pamela Bomboy and her husband, Barry, of Richmond, Va.; three sons, Andrew Kirk of Independence, Calif., Daniel Kirk of Denver, Colo., and Albert Kirk and his wife, Theresa, of Portage, Ind.; three brothers, the Rev. Arthur Kirk of Plain City, Ohio, Ted Kirk and his wife, Ruth, of Asheville, N.C., and Paul Kirk and his wife, Charlotte, of Cambridge Springs; two sisters, Martha Burchard of Meadville and Margaret Held of Venice, Fla.; two grandchildren, Erin and Joseph; two step-grandchildren, Danielle and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Autumn; and numerous nieces, nephews, stepnieces, and stepnephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Cole; and three brothers, Lloyd, Elton, and Edwin Kirk.

<B>KIRK</B> — Calling hours for David A. Kirk, who died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the <B>Robert W. Waid Funeral Home</B>, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Beverly Spore, pastor of the Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Post 2006, Meadville.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, 24740 State St., Meadville, PA 16335.Share your memories and condolences at waidfuneralhome.net.
