James Clayton Edinger
James Clayton Edinger died peacefully Oct. 18 in his home in Tarzana, Calif.
James was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Foxburg, Clarion County. He was the son of George B. and Alice Mae Tonks Edinger.
James served during World War II as a Navy radioman and was awarded an Air Medal and a Letter of Commendation for saving the life of Admiral William Sample while on a mission over Leyte.
He was employed by Fritz Moon Tube and Pullman Standard and served as president of the local steelworkers for several years. He was responsible for instituting safety regulations and fair wages in the workplace. He also served as a union staff man for the United Steel Workers, District 19.
James enjoyed fishing, golfing and coaching youth baseball.
James is survived by three sons, John P. (Olga) Edinger and George T. (Roxanne) Edinger, both of Butler, and James D. Edinger of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Jo Ellen (Dennis) Polen of Tarzana, Calif.; and a stepdaughter, June (Mervyn) Boyle of Butler. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, John Edinger, Erin Davis, Alex Edinger, Nakisha Varady, Jairus Lett and Jamar Lett; and eight great-grandchildren.Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph H Edinger and George T. Edinger; one sister, Dorothy M. Chandler; and his dear friend and Navy pilot, William Balk.James accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in September of this year, and for this reason we celebrate his homecoming.
