Michael N. Neff
Michael Nicholas Neff, 83, of Oakland Township passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pittsburgh on Nov. 1, 1929, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Martha E. McGinley Neff.
He attended the Weaver and McGinley Schools.
Mike courageously and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a corporal in the 12th Calvary during the Korean War. He trained at Fort Knox, Ky., and was stationed in Germany.
Mike worked at the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Co. and then at Spang and Co. for 32 years and retired from Magnetics Inc. in 1991.
He was a life-long member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, where he served as the parish council president for several years. He was also a file member of the VFW of Chicora, Post 7876, and the Butler American Legion Post 117 for 13 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as dancing with his wife on Saturday nights.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Grace Barnes Neff, who he married Nov. 6, 1954; his children, Michael and Sue Neff of Chicora, Rosemary and Chuck Whitmire of Chicora, Jim and Nadine Neff of Chicora, Martha and Brian Birch of Butler, and Cynthia and Tom Swisher Neff of Freeport; his grandchildren, Ashley and Bob Green of Chicora, Michael and Sara Neff of Virginia, Nicholas and Denise Neff of Chicora, Matthew Neff of Butler, Katherine Neff of Chicora, Vanessa Birch of Butler and Victoria Birch of Butler; one great-grandchild, Zoe Green; one brother-in-law, James W.H. and Renie Barnes of Petrolia; and his niece and nephew.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Leona Barnes.
NEFF — Friends of Michael Nicholas Neff, who died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora. A celebration of life funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Chicora Road, North Oakland, Chicora, celebrated by the Rev.
