Joan Mary Madey
Joan Mary Madey, 89, of Cabot passed away on Saturday at Fair Winds Manor.
Born Feb. 5, 1923, in Gloucester, England, she was the daughter of the late Samuel G. and Florence (Burgess) Mather.
During World War II she was a telephonist in the Signal Corps in the British Army.
She was a war bride who came to the United States on the Queen Mary in February 1946 accompanied by her daughter, Marlene. They lived on a farm in Clinton Township where the U.S. Steel Sintering Plant was built, which is the current site of the Clinton Township Industrial Park. She was employed at the Saxonburg Hotel and also at Bauman Trucking.
Joan loved to knit, bake and cook.
Surviving are her loving daughter, Marlene and her husband, John, Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; her grandson, Stewart Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; her nieces, Lindsay and Sheena and her nephew, Stuart, and their families in England; her companion of 42 years, Norman Bauman of Cabot; his daughter, Linda and her husband, Larry; granddaughter, Kathleen; grandson, Brett; Norman's son, Gary and his wife, Brenda; and granddaughter, Jessica.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John J. Madey; her sister, Audrey; and niece, Fiona.
