Harold Bernd

Harold L. Bernd, 88, of Fombell passed away on Saturday at the Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony.

Born July 4, 1924, in Marion Township, he was the son of the late Harry and Bertha (Lintz) Bernd.

Harold married his loving wife, Erla, on April 14, 1950.

In 1986, he retired from Halstead Industries after 33 years of dedicated service.

He was a lifelong member of the St. John’s Burry’s Church in Rochester. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and raising his farm animals. Harold loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Erla E. (Kradel) Bernd; three daughters, Betty E. Hudspath and her husband, Mark, of Ellwood City, Donna L. Higley and her husband, Larry, of Fombell and Linda K. Garlitz and her husband, Greg, of Monaca; one son, Larry L. “Butch” Bernd and his wife, Sandra, of Evans City; two sisters-in-law; nine grandchildren; one stepgrandson; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-granddaughters.

Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Jean Bernd; two brothers, Floyd and Clair Bernd; and one stepgrandson, Kenny Rombach.

BERND — Friends of Harold L. Bernd, who died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. John's Burry's Church in Rochester. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. John's Burry's Church with Pastor Win Groseclose officiating. Please meet at the church.
