Dorothy Bemben

Dorothy Bemben, 93, of the Highfield area, Butler, died early Saturday morning at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Amedysis Home Health and Hospice.

She was born in Lyndora on July 7, 1919, a daughter of the late Thomas Buckowsky and Sophie Kukura Buckowsky Evansyhyn.

She was an active member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora, its Christian Mothers organization, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lyndora American Legion Post 778, the Tanglewood Senior Center, and the C.D. of A., Court 443 in Butler.

Dorothy was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking. She was a very loving and giving mother and grandmother and was an enthusiastic Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan.

She was the widow of Frank B. Bemben, who she married June 3, 1944. He passed on July 30, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, two sisters and one brother.

Surviving are four children and their spouses, David F. Bemben of Butler, Robert and Mary Bemben of Chicora, Carol J. “Jeannie” Bemben of Fairfield, Iowa, and Linda and Robert Fischer of Fenelton; one brother, Daniel Buckowsky of Lyndora; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews

BEMBEN — Friends of Dorothy Bemben, who died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church-Meridian, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler. The interment will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.The Bereavement Committee of St. Fidelis will conduct the parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations could be made to the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 107 Sunnyview Circle, Butler, PA 16001.
