Police: Man arrested after high-speed chase
BUFFALO TWP — A high-speed police chase that reached speeds of more than 100 mph ended safely early this morning when the suspect made it back to his home here, police said.
Harry L. Hartzell, 46, was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. He was arraigned on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, a felony, and reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license-DUI related, both misdemeanors.
Additionally, police cited him for reckless driving.
He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail, following arraignment.
An apparent road-rage incident in which Hartzell, driving a 1997 Saturn sedan, reportedly tried to ram another vehicle sent Buffalo Township police out looking for him about 1:30 a.m., court documents said.
Patrolman Jason Sappe spotted the car in the area of Parker and Doyle roads. He activated his emergency lights and siren but the suspect sped away.
Police chased Hartzell on several roads: Doyle Road, Parker Road, Ekastown Road, Sarver Road, and Bear Creek Road.
Sappe later found Hartzell at his home on Shaw Lane.
A preliminary hearing is Feb. 8 at the office of District Judge Sue Haggerty in Saxonburg.
