Helen Ruth Snyder, 90, of Slippery Rock passed away at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township.

Born Sept. 13, 1921, in Butler, she was the daughter of Elvy Floyd Snyder and Helen E. Badger Snyder.

As a young woman, Ruth lived with the Ehrman family of Butler and played a very active role in caring for their four daughters each of whom remained steadfast friends. They have survived her and are Judith Ehrman of Philadelphia, Undine Ehrman of Boulder, Colo., Ruth Sacco of Philadelphia and Stella Milner of New York, N.Y.

She graduated and received a teaching degree from Slippery Rock Normal School, later Slippery State Teachers College and now Slippery Rock University. She taught elementary school in the Butler School District. She loved children.

She was a member of the Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church, Muddy Creek Township. She enjoyed living on the farm, knitting, contributing to a number of charities and gardening.

She is survived by two brothers, Neil C. Snyder of Slippery Rock and John O. Snyder of Georgia; and her longtime caregiver, Tina L. Maxwell and her husband, Jeff A., of Mercer, with whom she made her home. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Paul Snyder and Elvy Snyder.

<B>SNYDER — </B>Services for Helen Ruth Snyder, who died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, will be at <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Matthew Kail, pastor of the Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church, officiating.Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon until the service at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in the Muddy Creek Cemetery.
