Myron R. Sonnett
Myron R. Sonnett, 96, a lifelong resident of Slippery Rock, passed away Monday at the Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, Mercer County, of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Slippery Rock to Henry August Sonnett and Mabel Hartzell Sonnett. Myron married Leslie Taylor Sonnett on Dec. 12, 1940. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2008.
He retired from Cooper Energy in Grove City in 1978 after 42 years in the fabricating department.
Myron was a lifelong member of the Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock, where he had served as a trustee and deacon.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame, voting in every major election for at least 50 years. He had been a past volunteer member of Slippery Rock Fire Department and a past member of Slippery Rock Sportsman Club. He enjoyed woodworking, renewing and repairing furniture, and collectibles. He was a fan of the Pirates, Steelers and Pens. He liked to bicycle, bowl, golf and play volleyball. He bicycled 800 miles in his 80th year.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon and her husband, Charles, Davis of Slippery Rock and Donna Sonnett of Essex, N.Y.; one daughter-in-law, Joan Sonnett of Canfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Jeff) Whitlatch, Amy (John) Leary, Susan (William) Caputo, Mark Sonnett and Matthew (Abby) Sonnett; five great-grandchildren, Michael and Chelsea Whitlatch, Shannon and Mara Leary and Katherine Caputo; and one family friend, Ralphy Chutz. Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Leslie; one son, Fred M. Sonnett; and two sisters, Hazel Luckock and Dorothy Sonnett.
<B>SONNETT</B> — A private interment service for Myron R. Sonnett, who passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery. A public memorial service will be at Center Presbyterian Church, 211 Center St., Slippery Rock, at 3 p.m. April 7, 2012 with the Rev. William Mumaw, pastor of the church, presiding.Arrangements are by the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Slippery Rock.
