Records: Marijuana, grow lamps found in apartment
Butler police were investigating a reported weekend burglary at a Mercer Street apartment and stumbled upon some unexpected evidence — more than a dozen suspected marijuana plants and what appeared to be an indoor grow operation.
Police on Sunday arrested the home’s tenants, Joel W. Tebay, 37, and Bobbie Joe Nash, 35, on felony and misdemeanor drug charges.
Both suspects are being held in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail each.
Tebay’s mother notified police Sunday morning that they had gotten a call about the apparent break-in at the apartment in the 200 block of Mercer Street.
Police said officers found the master bedroom had been ransacked and the door jamb damaged.
While searching that no one was inside, according to court documents, officers noticed several marijuana plants in two separate rooms.
In one of the rooms, another bedroom, police found a grow lamp surrounded by several small potted plants.
The other room was equipped with a four grow lamps and several larger plants, documents said.
At the top of the steps near the room was an empty bag of potting soil and other evidence of the alleged grow operation.
In all, police said they seized 13 suspected marijuana plants.
Tebay and Nash are charged with manufacture of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
