John L. Johnston
John L. Johnston, 78, of Butler passed away at 10:16 a.m. Friday at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1933, in Butler to the late Albert Clarence Johnston and Laura Bell Christy Johnston.
Mr. Johnston worked for 45 years at Penn Dixie Cement. He raised race horses and was a member of the United State Trotting Association. He enjoyed playing slots and going to the dog races.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Marines.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his loving spouse, Margaret, who he married on April 11, 1953; four sons, John Johnston and his wife, Lisa, of Butler, Scott Johnston and his wife, Cheryl, of Chicora, Dennis Johnston and his wife, Jodi, of Butler and Randy Johnston and his wife, Tracey, of Butler; one daughter, Carmen McGallis and her husband, Ronald, of Chicora; 13 grandchildren, Mandy Jack and her husband, Scott, Megan Guntrum and her husband, Curt, Shane, Zach and Dillon Johnston, Tara Selfridge, Nick and Katie Johnston, Ryan and Brianna Johnston, Krystal and Veronica Johnston, and Amber Kastelic; eight great-grandchildren, Callie Guntrum, Bradyn Elizabeth and Alex Jack, Logan Smith, Jonathon and Taylor Perdue, and Marlee and Alexis Tejchman; two sisters, Emma Bresnahan and Eleanor Williams, both of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son; one sister, Catherine Royal, and three brothers, Andy, William and Ralph Johnston.
<B>JOHNSTON</B> — Friends of John L. Johnston, who died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mary J. Kitchen of East Butler Presbyterian Church officiating.
