Warren A. Martin
Warren A. Martin, 88, of Chicora died at 6 p.m. Saturday in the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler.
Born in Castle Shannon, Pittsburgh, June 13, 1923, he was the son of James F. Martin and Agnes Baldesberger Martin.
He was baptized in St. Anne Church, Castle Shannon, where he was a member and where he attended St. Anne Elementary School, grades 1 through 8. He was a graduate of Mount Lebanon High School.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie Tech and received his master's degree from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
As an electrical engineer, Warren worked for the Bell Telephone Co., Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Blaw-Knox in Pittsburgh, Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown and Mine Safety in Pittsburgh. He was head of the measurement lab in Ferroxcube, Saugerties, N.Y., and also worked at Fair Rite in Wallkill, N.Y., and at Magnetics in East Butler.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Warren proudly served our country during World War II with the 9400th Technical Service Unit, Signal Corps, from Dec. 2, 1942, to March 26, 1946, achieving the rank of corporal.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, Chicora, where he was a past president of the church council and was very influential in organizing the Holy Name Society of the church.
He was a member of American Legion Post 0945 of Pennsylvania.
He and his lovely wife enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Frogtown Square Dancers and the Leftfooters of Hurley, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Agnes Little Martin, who he married on July 16, 1949; his daughters, Suzanne Colon and her husband, Ralph, of Brookville, Deborah Moreau and her husband, Marcel, of Bellevue, Neb., and Rebecca Shoemaker and her husband, Daniel, of Mars; his sons, Michael Martin and his wife, Kathryn, of Roswell, Ga., Brian Martin and his wife, Debbie, of Mechanicsville, N.Y., and Stephen Martin and his wife, Veronica, of Warner Robins, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Martin and his wife, Phylis, of Treesdale, Mars; and a sister-in-law, Adele Martin of London, Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Martin, and his brothers, James, Regis, Russell and Joseph Martin.
