Alice M. Sample, 77, of Buffalo Township passed away peacefully at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

Alice was born in Natrona Heights on May 6, 1934, the daughter of the late Orpha (Blystone) and William Powell.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sarver. Alice was an avid Steelers fan, and she enjoyed reading and traveling. She enjoyed watching and going to NASCAR races with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Walter G. Sample; her four sons, Sam (Cindy) Sample, of Pasadena, Md., Tim (Kathy) Sample of Buffalo Township, Dan (Denise) Sample, of Glen Burnie, Md., and Mark (Rose) Sample, of South Buffalo Township; her daughter, Cheryl (Dave) Faulx, of Winfield Township; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her two brothers, James (Karen) Powell of Brackenridge, and Louis (Sandy) Powell of Freeport.

Alice is preceded in death by her grandson, Derek Faulx, who passed away in 1985; two great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Timothy Sample; three brothers, Richard, William and Donald Powell; and three sisters, Betty Jones, Diana Kendall, and Shirley Hoak.

Sample, who passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the<B> Redmond Funeral Home,</B> 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sarver, with the Rev. Emery L. Barnett officiating.
