Richard L. Campbell
Richard L. Campbell, 62, of Chicora died at 10:47 p.m. Sunday in VA Butler Healthcare following a short illness.
He received an Associate Degree in Architecture from Butler County Community College.
He was employed by the Department of Environmental Protection for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an abandoned mine reclamation inspector for 29 years, retiring in June 2011.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving our country from Sept. 24, 1968, to Aug. 8, 1974, during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of E-4.
He was a Cub master and then became an assistant scout master for the Boy Scouts in Chicora.
Richard enjoyed walking his dog, Sadie, reading, doing crossword puzzles and was a music buff who loved the Beatles and the blues, regularly wowing his family and friends with his knowledge of rock 'n' roll. Richard felt truly blessed being able to spend unforgettable times with his devoted sons, as they shared his passion for rock 'n' roll and went on yearly fishing trips to Canada.
He cherished his granddaughter, nieces and nephew and looked forward to watching cartoons with his niece, Madison McGrady.
He will be deeply missed at the 35th Memorial Day Party at the Rupert Farm, where a special service will take place in his honor.
Born in Butler County, July 22, 1949, he was the son of the late R. Eugene Campbell and Laura Mae Lewis Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy McGrady Campbell, who he married Oct. 28, 1978; his sons, Ryan Campbell and his wife, Abi, of Chicora and Colin Campbell of Chicora; his granddaughter, Aralyn Sage Campbell of Chicora; his brother, Jim “Zippy” Campbell and his wife, Kathy, of Chicora; his nieces, Elizabeth McGrady of Slippery Rock, Jessica McGrady of Huntingdon, Madison McGrady of Chicora, Kate Campbell of Chicora, and Tanya Collins and her husband, Randy, of Herman; and his nephew, Adam Campbell and his wife, Jen, of Chicora.
