Marcela Oplanic, 75, of Butler died Friday at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born Aug. 1, 1936, in Brigi, Karojba, Croatia, she was a daughter of the late Antun and Ana (Blaskovic) Kazalac.

She was a homemaker and also had worked as a seamstress for Richmond Brothers from 1976 until 1981.

Marcela had lived in Croatia, also in Argentina from 1961 until 1975, then moving to the United States. She settled in Ohio, where she lived until recently moving to Butler.

She was a member of the Church of God in Evans City, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking for her family and making traditional ethnic foods from her homeland. Her fondest memories were in Argentina raising her children, camping by the oceanside, and also visiting and spending time with her son, Franco.

She was the widow of Josip Oplanic, who she married March 3, 1957, in Novaki, Croatia.

Surviving are her son, Franco Oplanic and his wife, Iponi, of Summerville, S.C.; one daughter, Marisa Ewing and her husband, Dave, of Butler; two grandchildren, Lora Oplanic and Isaac Oplanic, both of Summerville, S.C.; one brother, Bruno Kazalac, and his wife, Ana, and their children, Denis (Jill) Kazalac and Robert Kazalac, all of North Royalton, Ohio; and four sisters, Carolina Dragica Antolovich of Melbourne, Australia, Maria Srdoc of Buje, Croatia, Orelja Lakosaljc of Skropeti, Croatia, and Nerjna Madrusa of Robotani, Croatia.

<B>OPLANIC</B> — Friends of Marcela Oplanic, who died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of God, 800 S. Washington St., Evans City.Funeral services will then follow at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Rev. Keith Karns, her pastor, will officiate.Interment with graveside committal services will take place on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark, Ohio.Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Pittsburgh PA Office, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 602, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
