Thomas Lincoln 'Z' Mathews
Thomas Lincoln “Z” Mathews, 58, of Slippery Rock passed away at 6:40 a.m. Saturday at the VNA Hospice in Butler.
He was born April 27, 1953, in Pittsburgh, to William Isaiah Mathews and Ida Marie Gabler Mathews.
He graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1971 and attended Slippery Rock University.
He worked at Slippery Rock High School from 1972 to 1990. He then worked as a shipping and receiving clerk at the Student Government Association Bookstore, retiring in March 2011.
He was a member of the Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and the family Doberman, “Zookie.”
He was a member of the “HOG,” the Harley Owners Group, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and attending races at Williams Grove Speedway in Williams Grove, Pa.
He is survived by his mother, Ida M. Mathews of Slippery Rock, and one brother, Jay W. (Barbara) Mathews of Slippery Rock.
He was preceded in death by his father.
