Rev. Charles Henderson Sr.
The Rev. Charles Henderson Sr., 78, of Butler passed away after a long illness on Wednesday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Oct. 1, 1933, in Sarasota, Fla., the son of the late Ralph and Geneva (Cooper) Henderson.
Charles retired from the Butler School District after 29 years.
He was an active member of the Shiloh Baptist Church for more than 40 years where he served as assistant pastor, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was licensed to preach the Gospel on Nov. 21, 1982. He attended the Hardy School of Bible and the Western Pennsylvania Theological Seminary, both in Pittsburgh, and the Liberty Home Bible Institute in Virginia.
Surviving are his wife, Doris M. Henderson, who he married Aug. 21, 1960; two daughters, Terri L. Johnson and Cordelia Ann Henderson; two sons, Charles Henderson Jr. and his wife, Kyong cha, and Timothy Paul Henderson; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Doris W. Jones, Ernestine Williams, Suzzann Brown, Laura Ross and Marie Mosley; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Artis T. Johnson, and a sister.

Jefferson St., Butler, on Saturday from noon until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. His pastor, the Rev. Floyd Palmer, will officiate.
