DELMONT — Christian DePolo won three gold medals and Danielle DePolo took one silver and two bronze at the Golden Blades Figure Skating Championships recently.

Christian, 8, is a second-grader at Center Township Elementary School and won gold in freestyle to “Surfing in the USA”, in spotlight to “Thriller” and pairs to “You’ve Got A Friend In Me.” He competed in pairs with cousin Stefani Hartman, 7, who is a first-grader at Center Township Elementary.

Danielle, 12, upheld her silver-medal status from the state championships in freestyle while skating to “Hawaii 5-0” and upheld her spotlight bronze to “Waka Waka.” She also took bronze in the open freestyle to “Old Time Rock & Roll.”

All three medalists are coached by Marty Culbertson at the Beaver County Figure Skating Club.

McClellan foursome wins golf outingELLWOOD CITY — Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club and Ryan Sikora of Dick’s Sporting Goods teamed up with amateurs Erik Lenyk and Geoff Patterson to capture the Nike Golf Pro-Pro-Am-Am at Olde Stonewall Golf Club Monday.The team won with a score of 133, one stroke ahead of Ed and Gordon Vietmeier of Vietmeier Golf Center and amateurs Dale and Scott Vietmeier.John Aubrey of Aubrey’s Dubbs Dred and Adam Corson of Dick’s Sporting Goods along with amateurs Don Erickson and Artie Fink Jr. tied for sixth place at 140.McClellan and Sikora also won the Pro-Pro event with a 34-33—67.

Area squad wins basketball tourneyNATRONA HEIGHTS — Several local players dotted the roster that captured last weekend’s NAYS Basketball Tournament Championship for grades 11-12, which was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic School.The team, sponsored by Troy-Alan Chevrolet Buick GMC, included Jason Abel, Tavita Lio, Mac Megahan, Ben Pfeiffer, Michael Schenck, Alex Strezeski and Andy Tuzikow of Knoch; Ryan Dunn of Freeport and Matt Roman of Fox Chapel. The team was coached by Paris Strezeski and assisted by Damon Mains.
