Raymond E. “Bunk” Pierce, 88, of Harrisville passed away Sunday at the Grove City Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Clintonville on April 9, 1923, to Ellis E. Pierce and Elsie E. McKee Pierce

Jacqueline P. Walters, who he married on Sept. 12, 1943, passed away Oct. 3, 1989

Bunk got his start in trucking at age 16 when he started working in the business with his father. He owned and operated R.E. Pierce Trucking until his retirement in 1991.

He was a Protestant and a graduate of Harrisville High School, Class of 1942. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in World War II where he was a radarman 3rd class aboard the USS Wisconsin.

He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 852, Harrisville, and over the years he sponsored local softball teams and bowling teams. Bunk enjoyed pitching horse shoes and watching NASCAR and football.

Surviving are two sons, Paul E. Pierce and his wife, Shirley, of Harrisville and Scott Pierce of Harrisville; his companion, Gloria Lee of Harrisville; one granddaughter, Jessica Pierce of Harrisville; two grandsons, Craig Pierce and his wife, Cherie, of Harrisville and Jason Pierce and his wife, Julie, of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and one sister, Jean McFadden of Orlando, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one grandson, Ron Pierce; and one sister, Mary Lou McBride

<B>PIERCE</B> — Funeral services for Raymond E. “Bunk” Pierce, who died Sunday, March 18, 2012, will be at <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Boyd Smith, pastor of the West Unity Community Church, officiating.Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial with military honors will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
