Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, invites families to become “nature detectives” at 2 p.m. May 6. Because space will be limited, registration is required. Summer programs are planned for groups of children ages 4 and 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. Concurrent sessions are planned at Moraine State Park. Call 724-794-6011.

The 16th annual Outdoor Extravaganza, sponsored by the Butler Outdoor Club, is planned for Memorial Day weekend. Base camp is Breakneck Campground near McConnells Mill and Moraine state parks. Activities will include trail, road and mountain biking, hikes of various levels, canoe and kayak trips, a float raft trip, horseback riding, rappelling and more. Activities begin 9 a.m. each day. <B>A Star Party Weekend</B>, sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, will be held tonight and Saturday. Activities start at about 8:15 p.m. each day at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park, Frazer Township, Allegheny County. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help cover the costs of operation. Star parties are held weather permitting. Call 724-224-2510.<B>Western Pennsylvania Conservancy</B> hosts its annual river sojourn June 9, with a canoe trip along the northern Youghiogheny River. The one-day float will include activities and presentations focusing on the geology, ecology and history of this section of the river. Participants will start at the Yough River Park in Connellsville and travel 14 miles to Hazelbaker’s Bottom Yough Outfitters in Layton.
