Mary Elizabeth Duffy Reno

Mary Elizabeth Duffy Reno of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly at 8:20 a.m. Monday in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after a brief illness. She was 76.

Mrs. Reno was born July 13, 1935, in Forestville, a daughter of John Ross Duffy and Mabel Viola Haggerty. She was a 1954 graduate of Grove City High School and received her teacher's degree from what is now Slippery Rock University.

Mary was a second and third grade teacher at the former Transfer Elementary School for 34 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association.

A devout Catholic, Mary was a charter member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where she participated in the Monday Bible Study Group. Years earlier, she was a Sunday school teacher at St. Anthony's Church in Forestville, where she was a member for many years. She was a history buff and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Anthony Joseph Reno, who she married June 10, 1972; two daughters, Mary Ann Widmyer and her husband, Scott, of Sharon, and Monica Rose Reno, at home, and three grandchildren, twins, Madeline and Ian Widmyer, and Miranda Widmyer. She also leaves four sisters, Louise Frampton of Harrisville, Julia Himes and her husband, Don, of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Rose Moutray and her husband, Dick, of Washington, Ill, and Patty Wilkerson of Chicago; and two brothers, Simon Duffy and his wife, Linda, of Forestville and John Daniel Duffy and his wife, Edna, of Chicago.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ann Bell.

<B>RENO</B> — Calling hours for Mary Elizabeth Duffy Reno, who passed away Monday, March 26, 2012, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at <B>J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory</B>, 1090 E. State St., Sharon.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with Msgr. Edward J. Zeitler, senior associate, as celebrant.
