George Lewis Miller
George Lewis Miller, 91, of Penn Township passed away Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
Born Nov. 12, 1920, in Albert, W.Va., he was the son of John Miller and Stella Crawford Miller.
George was a decorated patriot and lovingly served his country during World War II aboard the USS Swannee as a seaman first class. After serving his country, he worked for 35 years as a coal miner for the Consolidated Coal Co. in Harmarville.
Known to many as George, Dad, Grey Squirrel or Pap, he had a love for music, sang and played the accordion and enjoyed many hours of watching the “Lawrence Welk Show” on television. One of George's most cherished memories was sharing the stage with the late Perry Como. In addition, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and dabbled in photography.
He was a member of the Saxonburg VFW Post 7376.
Surviving are two sons, George L. (Dora) Miller Jr. of Penn Township and James A. Miller of Gibsonia; two daughters, Brenda (William) Venesky of Cabot and Beverly J. (Richard) Diamond of Saxonburg; one sister, Betty Kobik of Sarver; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, MaryLou Rogers Miller; two brothers, Fred “Bing” Miller and John “Jack” Miller; and one sister, Viola Caldwell.
<B>MILLER</B> — Friends of George Lewis Miller, who died Saturday, April 14, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at <B>FOX FUNERAL HOME</B>, Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Hartman officiating.
