BUTLER TWP — The Butler School Board Monday night:

[naviga:font face="ZapfDingbats"]4[/naviga:font] Named Jeffrey Kroner the Golden Tornado Marching Band’s director for the 2012-13 school year, with a salary of $8,000.

[naviga:font face="ZapfDingbats"]4[/naviga:font] Approved increases in 2012-13 school lunch prices to $1.75 for elementary school students and $2 for secondary school students. Under new federal rules, students will receive larger portions of fruits and vegetables.

[naviga:font face="ZapfDingbats"]4[/naviga:font] Gave Waste Management a contract to collect the district’s trash and recyclables for the next three years. Waste Management’s price for 2012-13, $49,267, is about $10,000 more than the district paid Vogel Disposal Service this year. During the second and third years of the contract, prices will rise to $50,241 and $50,256, respectively.

[naviga:font face="ZapfDingbats"]4[/naviga:font] Approved $70,000 for a remedial reading program for the sixth grade to help students reach proficiency on state reading tests. The program has already worked in the junior high school. Forty teachers will be trained to use the materials.

[naviga:font face="ZapfDingbats"]4[/naviga:font] Agreed to spend about $10,000 from the 2011-12 technology budget to finance the district’s own Teaching With Technology Grants in 2012-13. Teachers compete for the funds to buy interactive white boards for their classrooms.

[naviga:font face="ZapfDingbats"]4[/naviga:font] Agreed to buy two compresors for the high school in time for graduation to replace two that have failed. Allegheny Engineering Company was the low bid at $6,338.
