John E. Duespohl

John Duespohl

John E. Duespohl, 86, formerly of Petrolia and who lived on Hillside Avenue in Port Allegany, McKean County, passed away Tuesday in the Lakeview Senior Care and Living Center, Smethport.

Born April 7, 1926, in Petrolia, he was a son of Charles A. and Clara E. Cochran Duespohl Sr.

On June 6, 1953, in Port Allegany, he married Mabel G. Smith, who died July 14, 1984.

Mr. Duespohl was an elementary teacher and principal at the Mill Street School, Port Allegany School District, for 34 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army as staff sergeant with the 69th Infantry.

He was a 1951 graduate of Clarion University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a 1959 graduate of Penn State University with a master's degree in education administration.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, the VFW Post 6391 and the American Legion Post 258, both of Port Allegany; a lifetime charter member of the National World War II Memorial Tribute to a Generation; and was a National World War II museum supporter.

He was a life member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and McKean Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, a former member of the Port Allegany Chamber of Commerce, a former junior assistant scoutmaster, and he was a licensed auctioneer.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen S. (Jeff) Row of New Cumberland, Pa.; a son, Gary L. (Donna) Davis of Fairless Hills, Pa.; three grandchildren, Kimberly A. Davis, Tyler S. Row and Lucas J. Row; a brother, Charles (Esther) Duespohl Jr. of Karns City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mabel, and a brother, Bernard Duespohl.

<B>DUESPOHL</B> — Friends of John E. Duespohl, who passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the <B>Switzer Funeral Home</B>, Port Allegany. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, with the Rev. Randall Headley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.A military service will be held by the Port Allegany Honor Guard following the service.Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church or the Veterans Memorial Home, Port Allegany.Condolences can be made at switzerfuneralhome.com.
