George A. Lawther

George A. Lawther, 82, of Portersville went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday. He died at the Evergreen Nursing Center following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 13, 1929, in Bakerstown, he was the son of the late George Raymond and Jessie R. Dobson Lawther.

He was married to his best friend, Margaret June Nye Lawther, who passed away April 1, 2008. They were married Aug. 12, 1976.

George retired from the Pittsburgh Cut Flower Co. He also worked at Hopper Building Supply.

He was an active member of the Free Methodist Church. George volunteered at both the Portersville and Butler food banks. He enjoyed farming and gardening.

Survivors include five sisters, Evelyn Cotto and Beatrice Rodriguez, both of Valencia, Harriet Vasquez of Mars, Alice Howryla of Richland Township and Cheryl Zabish of Lumberton, Texas; and five brothers, Rodney and Robert “Butch” Lawther, both of Cranberry Township, Gerald Lawther of Bairdford, and Daniel and Edward Lawther, both of Mars. He also is survived by Margaret's brothers and sisters and their families with whom he was very close.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, William R. Lawther.

LAWTHER — Visiting hours for George A. Lawther, who passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. Funeral services will be at the Free Methodist Church, Ellwood City, at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Todd Onink officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery.Donations in his memory may be made to the Free Methodist Church, Ellwood City.Online condolences may be sent to marshallsfh.com.
