Laura Jane Thompson, 87, of Slippery Rock, Brady Township, passed away at VNA Hospice, Technology Drive, Butler, at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Born in Cherry Township, Feb. 12, 1925, she was the daughter of George Gilmore Midberry and Ruth Lela Eakin Midberry.

She married Clifford Paul Thompson on April 22, 1943, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1991.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Grove City Eastern Star Chapter 86 for more than 57 years, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1968. She was a member of the Grove City Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem for more than 54 years, where she was Worthy High Priestess three times and Watchman of Shepherds twice. She was a member of Farrell Court 120 Order of the Amaranth in West Middlesex for more than 15 years. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Slippery Rock and Wimodausis.

She was a member of: the Branchton United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and served as treasurer for 41 years. She collected cardinals made from wood, porcelain and glass and tapestries.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Thompson Warner and her husband, Charles, of Grove City and Barbara Thompson Stahlman of Slippery Rock; two grandchildren, Joseph Paul Stahlman and his wife, Tina, and Bobbi Jo Baughman and her husband, Scott; a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Stahlman; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Earl Midberry.

<B>THOMPSON</B> — Funeral services for Laura Jane Thompson, who passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, will be at the Branchton United Methodist Church, Branchton Road, Slippery Rock, at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of the Branchton United Methodist Church, presiding. Her family will receive friends at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B> from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. They will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. SaturdayInterment will be at Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.Memorial contributions may be given to Butler VNA Hospice, Technology Drive, Butler, PA.
