David L. Bovard

David L. Bovard, 79, of Black Road, Harrisville, died Friday at his home.

He was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Harrisville, to Eugene H. Bovard and Elma V. (McClymonds) Bovard.

He was a 1952 graduate of Grove City High School. He played four years of high school football, and in his senior year the football team was Mercer County Football champion and District 10 Football champion.

He was employed by Manesiotis Painting of Pittsburgh. He also worked out of Local 6 Painters Union, Pittsburgh.

He was a member of the West Unity Community Church, Harrisville. He was a member of the Harrisville American Legion Post 852, a member of Moniteau Ceremonial Squad and a member of the Boyers Sportsmans Club, and he was a former member of the Mercer Moose Lodge.

He was a pilot with the rank of staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Award, the National Defense Award and the Good Conduct Award.

He married Dorothy P. (Dyer) Bovard on June 20, 1953, and she died on Sept. 28, 2007.

Surviving are one daughter, Marjorie L. Thiry and her husband, Ronald R., of Harrisville; two sons, Brian L. Bovard and his wife, Rosa, of Alexandria, Va., and William A. Bovard and his wife, Theresa, of Harrisville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers.

BOVARD — Visitation for David L. Bovard, who died Friday, May 25, 2012, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the West Unity Community Church with Pastor Boyd D.
