NEW ORLEANS — Orlando has agreed to a sign-and-trade deal, sending restricted free agent forward Ryan Anderson to New Orleans for forward Gustavo Ayon, a person familiar with the agreement said.
The 6-foot-10 Anderson is entering his fifth NBA season out of California. He started 61 games for Orlando last season, averaging 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds.
ST. LOUIS — Giancarlo Stanton, the Miami Marlins' lone All-Star, is recovering after undergoing arthroscopic right knee surgery.Manager Ozzie Guillen says Sunday's procedure went well. The Marlins say the 22-year-old Stanton is expected to be out for four to six weeks.
WIMBLEDON, England — Roger Federer's seventh Wimbledon title turned into a quite a bonanza for international aid agency Oxfam.Because of a bet made in 2003, the charity won $157,750 (101,840 pounds) when Federer defeated Andy Murray on Sunday in the Wimbledon final.According to Oxfam, Nicholas Newlife bet that Federer would win seven Wimbledon titles before 2020. When Newlife died three years ago, he left his estate — including some outstanding bets — to the organization.
DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings have hired former star defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom as a scout.Assistant general manager Jim Nill confirmed the move Sunday, adding that Lidstrom would likely be based in Europe. Lidstrom plans to move back to his native Sweden.He retired in May after winning seven Norris Trophies as the NHL's top defenseman and helping the Red Wings win four Stanley Cups in 20 seasons.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kevin Harvick became a father on Sunday, a day after his wife flew home unexpectedly from Daytona International Speedway.Keelan Paul Harvick was born Sunday in North Carolina. He is the first child for Kevin and DeLana Harvick.
