SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Butler BlueSox manager Anthony Rebyanski will manage the East Division team at tonight's Prospect League All-Star Game.
The All-Star managers are usually from teams that win the first half of the season, but West Virginia Miners manager Tim Epling was unable to coach due to personal reasons.
The BlueSox, at 18-12, were second in the East Division standings.
HARRISBURG — Forrest Christmann, a soon-to-be-senior at Slippery Rock High School, captured second place at the National High School Coaches Association's U.S. Open, a national high school wrestling tournament which was held at the Farm Show Arena last Saturday.Christmann placed second in the 285-pound division and earned national high school All-American status for the third time.
LOCK HAVEN — A school-record 48 percent of Slippery Rock University student-athletes earned PSAC Scholar-Athlete status during the 2011-12 academic year.A total of 206 Rock student-athletes finished the academic year with a grade-point average of 3.25 or higher.The Rock ranked third among 16 PSAC institutions behind Mercyhurst (236) and West Chester (207). SRU did lead in percentage of student-athletes honored. Gannon was second with 46 percent and Mercyhurst third at 42 percent.SRU's 2007-08 list had the previous best marks with 181 athletes and 45 percent.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — John Bossle, a senior guard on the 2011-12 Slippery Rock University men's basketball team, was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Honors Court, which “recognizes the talents and gifts collegiate basketball student-athletes possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.”Athletes must be a junior or senior on a Division I, II or III or an NAIA institution, a GPA of at least 3.2 and completed at least one year at their school.
