Derek Jordan Durand
Derek Jordan Durand, 20, of Buffalo Township passed away Wednesday.
Derek was born in Kittanning on May 25, 1992. He was the son of Melinda J. (Harvey) and Todd W. Durand of Buffalo Township.
Derek was an outstanding high school athlete. He was Valley News Dispatch Athlete of the Year for 2010-11 and was a member of Freeport's section championship teams in football and basketball. He also was a WPIAL medal winner in hurdles and the long jump and set the Freeport record in the long jump. Derek was entering his sophomore year at Slippery Rock University, where he was a member of the football team and saw plenty of playing time as a true freshman.
Derek enjoyed playing X-Box, watching movies, hanging out with his friends and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sister, Danika J. Durand of Buffalo Township; maternal grandparents, Chester and Patricia Harvey of Buffalo Township; paternal grandparents, Robert and Joanne Durand of Saxonburg; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Shirley May Durand in 1973.
DURAND — Family and friends of Derek Jordan Durand, who passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Funeral services will be at the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, 100 E. Main St., Saxonburg, at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Emery Barnett and the Rev. William Mumaw officiating.
