FREEPORT — Nick Peluso of Portersville, Marissa Sudar of Center Township and Audrey Clawson of Sarver won their respective age divisions at the Kings Restaurants Junior Golf Tournament this week at Buffalo Valley.

Peluso shot a 75 to win the boys 15-16 age group. Sudar shot a 41 for nine holes to win the girls16-18 division and Clawson carded a 41 for nine to win the girls 14-15 division.

Favre coaching high school teamBrett Favre is returning to football — as an assistant high school coach in Mississippi.His agent, Bus Cook, told The Associated Press that Favre will work at Oak Grove High School this fall “to help out in some capacity, but I'm not sure exactly what his role will be.”The school is near the former NFL quarterback's home in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Ex-Braves pitcher works with TebowLOS ANGELES — New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow has been working on his throwing mechanics with former major league pitcher Tom House.Tebow, whose unorthodox throwing motion has been often criticized, spent this week with House at the University of Southern California. House has worked with several NFL quarterbacks over the years, including Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Alex Smith.

Ex-NFL officials were not firedNEW YORK — The NFL says nine former on-field officials have not been fired from part-time jobs.Former NFL referee Jerry Markbreit said that he and eight other retired officials were asked to hand in their NFL-issued laptops and had been fired. The league wanted the nine men to train replacement officials after the league locked out the current officials.The NFL says in a statement that the nine “are seasonal employees who have decided not to work at this time. We asked for their NFL-issued laptops back so that those who are working right now can use them.”

Thome hits 610th, passes SosaCLEVELAND — Jim Thome hit his 610th home run to pass Sammy Sosa and move into seventh place on the all-time list.Thome led off the fourth inning for Baltimore and connected off Cleveland's Derek Lowe.

Astros, Jays swing 10-player tradeHOUSTON — The Houston Astros acquired closer Francisco Cordero and outfielder Ben Francisco as part of a 10-player trade with Toronto.Houston will also receive four minor leaguers in the deal — right-handed pitchers Joe Musgrove and Asher Wojciechowski, left-handed pitcher David Rollins, catcher Carlos Perez and a player to be named later.The Blue Jays, who entered Friday at 45-47 and in last place in the AL East, will receive pitchers Brandon Lyon, J.A. Happ and David Carpenter.
