Shirley Jean Carnahan Miller

Shirley Jean Carnahan Miller of Chattanooga, Tenn., formerly of Chicora and Saxonburg, died Sunday at her home surrounded by her loving children.

She was born May 17, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa. Her proud parents were Tom and Helen Samansky.

Shirley lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., for more than three and one-half years. Shirley was lucky to live at home with her children and to have in-home hospice care.

She moved to the Tennessee Valley from the Chicora and Saxonburg areas.

Shirley always enjoyed family gatherings, holidays, traveling and cooking when she was able. She was a lifetime member of the Saxonburg VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the Saxonburg Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Shirley is survived by her four children, daughter, Debra (James) Mansfield, son, William (Bill) Carnahan and her second daughter, Catherian (Cathy) Carnahan, all of Chattanooga, Tenn., and her second son, Randy Carnahan of Chicora. Shirley had six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents and the love of her life, her husband, William E. Carnahan, who died in 1969.

MILLER — Shirley Jean Carnahan Miller died Sunday, June 24, 2012. Following a private service, she will be interred in Chattanooga, Tenn.
