Leo Temoshenko
Leo Temoshenko, 57, passed away unexpectedly on June 20 at his home in Raleigh N.C. Formerly, he lived in Cabot.
He was the son of Violet (Alexander) and the late Nicholas Temoshenko. He was born May 11, 1955, in the Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.
Leo graduated from Knoch High School in 1973 and from Slippery Rock University in 1977. He taught school in York, Pa., for two years while attending school in Virginia for physical therapy. He worked as a physical therapist at VA Butler Healthcare while attending evening classes at the University of Pittsburgh for a degree in computer science.
Leo worked for Alcoa in Pittsburgh until his employment with IBM in 1989, which led to his relocation to Raleigh, N.C. While with IBM, he was presented with the Inventor of the Year award. Leo left IBM in 1999 to work for Cisco Technology as a software engineer.
Leo loved to hunt, but weightlifting was his passion. He started weightlifting as a teenager in high school and, at the Butler YMCA, he trained under the late Marty Cypher. He won many awards in competition including a national teenage weightlifting award in California.
Six years ago he became an Olympic weightlifting judge. He was still involved in lifting in the senior meets and still was winning awards.
Leo attended the St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Raleigh, N.C.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cynthia (Afeld) Temoshenko; his mother, Violet, and his stepfather, John, Altman; a brother, Nicholas and his wife, Sandra, Temoshenko of Butler; a sister, Susan and her husband, Mark, Cunningham of Cabot; three nephews, Mark, Clinton and Michael Cunningham of Cabot; and his uncles, John Temoshenko of Allison Park and John Alexander of New Kensington.
He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs Anufrey Temoshenko and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Alexander; and several aunts and uncles.
