Mary Esther Bauer, 92, of Butler passed away at 9:20 a.m. Friday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Butler to the late Harry Elmer Bauer and Grace Lucetta Maharg Bauer.

She was the manager of the Butler Credit Bureau.

Miss Bauer was a member of the Hill United Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Soroptimists and the Association for the Blind. She enjoyed knitting, philanthropy to the YMCA and Habitat for Humanity, and singing in the church choir.

Miss Bauer is survived by one sister, Dorothy (Bauer) Briggs of Ohio; one sister-in-law, Mae D. Bauer of Butler; two nieces, Roberta (Bauer) Henkel and her husband, William, of Hudson, Ohio, and Esther Ann (Briggs) Neumann of Ohio; two nephews, Roger Briggs and his wife, Marcia, of Ephrata, Wash., and Louis Briggs and his wife, Susan, of Sayre, Pa.; 18 grandnieces and nephews; and “the very special cousin who has been like a daughter over the past 30 years,” Beverly Bachman of Butler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Donald M. Bauer, and by one niece, Marilyn Bauer Evan.

BAUER — Friends of Mary Esther Bauer, who died Friday, July 20, 2012, will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Clark Sawyer of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Macular Degeneration, c/o American Health Assistance Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, MD 20871.
